Who we are

About Nick Carson

Nick Carson is a nationally recognized Critical Care Flight Paramedic, educator, and public safety leader with over 15 years of experience responding to emergencies across Vermont and the greater New England region. His career has spanned nearly every level of emergency service — from volunteer firefighter to senior firefighter/paramedic, to his current role as a Flight Paramedic III with the University of Vermont Health Network. Nick is known for his professionalism, calm leadership under pressure, and commitment to elevating the standard of care in prehospital medicine.

A graduate of Vermont Technical College’s Paramedicine Program, where he finished first in his class, and holding a B.S. in Public Communication from the University of Vermont, Nick brings a rare blend of medical precision and communication expertise. His ability to translate complex clinical concepts into clear, actionable training has made him a sought-after national conference speaker and instructor. He has presented at leading EMS and leadership conferences, including EMS World Expo, New York State Vital Signs, Pennsylvania State EMS Conference, and the EMS Leadership Academy Summit.

Beyond his flight paramedic role, Nick is a certified educator and curriculum developer with a passion for building strong, competent teams. He has served as an Instructor Coordinator, AHA Faculty member, NAEMT Affiliate Faculty, and NAEMT Vermont State Coordinator, teaching courses such as ACLS, PALS, TECC, and PHTLS. He also led the Burlington Fire Department’s EMS Recruit Academy, authoring the full curriculum and mentoring dozens of new firefighters and paramedics entering the field.

In addition to his work in public safety, Nick is the Managing Partner of Precision Training, LLC, a specialized education company he co-founded with Dr. Chance Sullivan, a physician specializing in Wilderness and Emergency Medicine. Together, they deliver advanced training programs in critical care, tactical, and wilderness medicine, combining field-tested experience with evidence-based medical instruction. Their mission is to close the gap between traditional classroom education and the unpredictable challenges faced in the field.

Nick’s dedication extends beyond instruction—he is also a writer, podcast host, and advocate for frontline resilience. As the producer and host of the Code 321 Podcast, he shares stories and leadership lessons from the emergency services community, amplifying the voices of those on the front lines. He also serves as Editor-in-Chief of “Back in Service: Frontline Stories of Resilience”, a published anthology highlighting the strength and humanity of first responders. His written work has appeared in JEMS (Journal of Emergency Medical Services), where he explores leadership, performance, and innovation in modern EMS systems.

About Dr. Chance Sullivan

Dr. Chance Sullivan, MD, is a board-certified Emergency Medicine and Wilderness Medicine physician dedicated to advancing the science and practice of medicine in austere, high-stakes environments. He served as an Emergency Medicine Attending Physician within the University of Vermont Health Network, providing care at both the Level 1 Trauma Center in Burlington and at rural critical-access hospitals across northern New England. His clinical work is complemented by his previous role as a Clinical Instructor at the Larner College of Medicine, where he mentored medical students and residents in emergency and wilderness medicine disciplines. Currently Chance is an attending physician working in Golden, Colorado.

Dr. Sullivan completed his Emergency Medicine Residency and Chief Residency at the University of Vermont, followed by a Wilderness Medicine Fellowship that included clinical and expeditionary work in remote regions such as Alaska’s Juneau Icefields, Argentina’s Aconcagua, and the Sugarbush Ski Clinic in Vermont. These experiences cultivated a unique expertise in treating patients in extreme and resource-limited conditions, preparing him to teach and lead others in the intersection of medicine, rescue, and environmental stewardship.

A passionate educator and curriculum developer, Dr. Sullivan has directed multiple academic programs, including the Wilderness Medicine Elective and Three Peaks Ski Clinic Clerkship at UVM. He is an instructor for Advanced Trauma Life Support, Wilderness First Responder, and Point-of-Care Ultrasound. His lectures have been featured at national and international gatherings such as the Wilderness Medical Society Winter Conferences in Whistler, Tahoe, and Jackson Hole, and the Vermont State Search and Rescue Conference.

In addition to teaching, Dr. Sullivan is an active researcher and expedition physician. He has served on backcountry rescue teams, designed EMS protocols for wilderness environments, and published work on altitude medicine, hypothermia, and field triage systems. His academic contributions and leadership have earned him numerous distinctions, including the Wilderness Medical Society’s Outstanding Research Presentation Award, UVM’s Pediatric Emergency Medicine Resident of the Year, and appointment as Chief Resident during his training.

Today, as Co-Founder and Medical Director of Precision Training, LLC, Dr. Sullivan partners with flight paramedic and educator Nick Carson to provide advanced, real-world training for first responders, paramedics, and clinicians. Their mission is to deliver field-tested, evidence-based education that equips professionals to think critically, act decisively, and provide exceptional care—whether on the roadside, in the backcountry, or at 20,000 feet.
